Ceramic table lamps are made of natural clay and then hardened by prolonged exposure to fire or heat. But which ceramic lamps are hot these days? With so many table lamps available here at Bailey Street Home, how can you home in on ones that are unique? We’ve got you on this… we’ve put together some of our favorites to help kick your inspiration into a higher gear. While you’re reviewing these ideas, think about how the look would work in your own home.
As quite a few of our customers already know, the key to professionally lighting your home is to layer your lighting. Layered lighting means that you have options to use any or all of the lighting in a particular room to create the atmosphere that you prefer. Layers can include downlights (like pendant lights, ceiling cans/LEDs or track lighting), wall lighting (like sconces), floor lighting (floor lamps) and table lighting (table lamps).
One of our favorite layers, especially in living/family room or bedroom settings, is the tried-and-true table lamp. Perennial favorites on nightstands and end tables, table lamps are frequently the go-to fixtures in some of our favorite rooms.
Our craftsmen started with a classic urn shape for this first ceramic table lamp idea and applied a dark base layer to begin to multi-step finish on the Wayfield Close table lamp. Over this, a base coat of a gorgeous Aged Stone finish is applied, and once cured a character distressing process reveals the dark undertones. The business end of this amazing table lamp sports plated Brushed Nickel details and a light gray linen fabric drum shade. This rustic beauty is perfectly at home in so many styles (hobo, farmhouse, shabby chic, new farmhouse, rustic, industrial and transitional), it’ll go perfect in your home.
One of the things we love about ceramic lamps is their versatility of finishes. You’ll find many ceramic lamps to be polished, shiny and sleek… and others to be more textured. This particular lamp is all about the finish… the texture and subtle natural differences in the Sienna finish make this lamp stand out from all the rest. The Bailey Street Home Mews table lamp is substantial – at 25 lbs. and only 20” high, it’ll firmly seat itself on your end table or nightstand. The heavily angled linen shade fills out the silhouette of the lamp, giving it a unique look that you’ll be proud to have by your side for years to come.
If you’ve got a room that’s built with earthy tones (colors that are similar to natural materials and landscapes), your table lamp will tie it all together if you select just the right one. You’ll find none that the uniquely earthy finish on this crackled glaze table lamp features a ceramic base in an earthy Terracotta Rust that transitions into a crackled Green Gray Glaze, perfectly anchoring your room to Terra Firma. Looking deeper into the design, the thick crystal foot and Brushed Nickel-plated details round out the lamp base nicely, while the hardback drum shade in a gray linen fabric (with natural slubbing) tops the piece perfectly.
Sometimes when you want a black table lamp to set off your space, you really want a little something extra. The versatility of finishes on ceramic table lamps comes to the rescue once again, allowing a black lamp to have depth and texture more than a typical deep black can provide. The striated black and deep gray lines on the Bailey Street Home Dickens West table lamp adds a casual yet contemporary feel to your space. The ceramic base in a Charcoal glaze with an etched texture is perfectly complimented by Brushed Nickel hardware. Topping it all off is a round hardback drum shade in Oatmeal linen. Adding this piece to your home will bring both strength and texture to your space.
Let’s start with answering the question, “What the heck is Terrazzo anyway?” Terrazzo is a composite material used in countertops, flooring and other custom products that consists of chips of granite, marble, quartz, glass, shell or other suitable materials. In short, it’s a poured material that has other stuff in it. The casual blue-gray terrazzo in the ceramic Red House Royd table lamp leaves a natural texturing and hints of Megan Molten’s signature color. Topped with a white linen shade, the Aged Brass details add just the right touch. As a part of the Bailey Street Home Tastemakers collection, this lamp will throw off a welcoming glow when styled on an entryway console table.
Rooms that lean themselves toward the cool side of the color palette (blues, greens and purples) would do well to have this blue ceramic table lamp lighting the way. Sandwiched between a porous textured foot and neck (that gives a definitively “concrete” look), your guests will focus on the Light Aqua Blue crackle glaze (with a light Gray textured pattern) that gives this lamp a distinctly global, bohemian flair. Standard on this piece is a 3-way switch, allowing you to create just the right mood whether it’s a romantic rom-com movie night or time for a deep cleaning, your lighting will be just perfect. Complimenting the Aqua Blue crackle finish is a hardback drum shade in Beige linen fabric with natural slubbing (FYI, “slubbing” is fabric created with intentional twists and irregularities in the fibers to give it a nubby look and add some textural interest).

If you’re wondering if your room is set up in the classic farmhouse style, take a look around. Do you see a more rustic, country style (often making use of vintage furniture or classic patterns like plaid? Do you have free range (free room?) chickens rambling through the room? What you’ve got there is a classic farmhouse style. Adding new table lamps that look like old table lamps is the key to keeping your classic farmhouse style cohesive, and we’ve got just the right thing. The milky Antique Cream finish on this farmhouse ceramic table lamp is accented with a Dark Brown rub through, giving it the perfect farmhouse look. The Oatmeal linen round hardback shade tops this piece, adding warmth and strength to the look.
If your home has the ambiance of an old European estate or manor (or if you happen to own your own European estate or manor), then Old World-style is for you! You’ll find deep, rich colors abound, materials are organic and earthy, fabrics are luxurious and most of the finishes are distressed in an Old World-style home. Accessorize with things like wrought iron, wall tapestries, earthenware, hand-knotted rugs and you’ll be right on track. Adding a gorgeous Old World-style table lamp, will keep your hundreds-of-years-old look nice and tight. The heavily distressed Stone Ivory finish shows gray undertones, showcasing Old World-style at its best. Brushed nickel-plated details abound, while the hardback drum shade is an Off-White linen fabric is a perfect topper.
Ceramics lean themselves heavily toward the rustic look… and this is a prime example. The softly fluted design of the Bailey Street Home Pippens table lamp features an Off-White crackle glaze with Distressed Rust Brown details (and a noticeable ribbed texture). Outfitted with a 3-way switch (yes, there are 3-way LED bulbs available in 40-60-100 and 50-100-150-watt equivalents) for an easy way to set the mood, this lamp is topped with a light gray linen fabric drum shade.
Again, we see the versatility of finishes available with ceramic table lamps. The Bailey Street Home School Corner table lamp sports a uniquely porous texture finished in a stone-ivory and taupe glaze. Accented with a thick crystal collar and brushed nickel-plated details, you’ll find the overall look of this piece to be a stunning addition to your home. To complete the look, a light gray fabric drum shade tops off the piece.
Every time we write about ceramic table lamps, I’m surprised by the versatility of textures, finishes and colors that we have available for you. We hope some of these design ideas have moved you to replace some of your old table lamps (or add new ones where they are sorely needed).
